Liverpool are reportedly open to the sale of Takumi Minamino if they receive a fee of £17million this summer – and Newcastle should sign the Reds ace. The Japanese ace has not received the game time he deserves.
Minamino, 27, has still managed to score 10 goals in 24 appearances this season despite being some way down the pecking order. The signing of Luis Diaz, and the form of Diogo Jota, puts him firmly in reserve on Merseyside.
This summer is likely to pose an interesting one, for the Japanese ace. Having scored against Southampton on Tuesday, his future has been in the news. Anfield Watch claim £17million is required to sign him this summer.
Leeds, if they stay up, will make a move after interest in January, while Inter Milan are keen. Lazio are also said to want him. But surely, at such a bargain price, Newcastle have got to be all over a deal for Minamino?
Newcastle should sign Liverpool ace Minamino: £17m is a bargain
Yes, Minamino has been out in the cold at Liverpool this season, or at best, warming the bench. But that is no slight on the player, but more a sign how much weaponry Liverpool have in the final third. Minamino is a top player.
Newcastle have Allan Saint-Maximin on the left, and either Callum Wilson or Chris Wood through the middle. Miguel Almiron and Ryan Fraser are options on the right, but they are hardly long-term solutions at SJP.
The club will bring in numerous players this summer and a right-sided winger is likely to be a priority. Minamino would be perfect for the role, and ideal for an Eddie Howe side. He has huge quality, and work rate, too.
Howe wants his players to work hard, press high and defend from the front. Minamino is capable of that – a player branded “phenomenal” by Adam Lallana. If Minamino can be bought for £17million, Newcastle must do it.
