Aston Villa’s latest signing has explained the conversation he had with Unai Emery that convinced him to join the club.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have already pulled off the impressive purchase of Ian Maatsen, following the Dutchman’s spell on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

As well as this, Villa pulled off the free signing of Luton Town midfielder Ross Barkley, who was compared to Diego Maradona during his time at the club.

HITC had reported that Villa were confident of winning the race for Philogene, despite interest from Ipswich Town and Everton this summer. That deal has now been confirmed by the club.

Jaden Philogene explains key conversation he had with Emery

Following a brilliant season for Hull City, which included 12 goals for the club with a fantastic rabona against Rotherham the pick of the bunch, it was of little surprise to see so many Premier League sides keen on the winger.

HITC had reported that Everton had seen their offer for Philogene accepted by Hull. Ipswich were also interested and they had too struck a deal but Aston Villa triggered the buyback clause in his deal.

Speaking to Aston Villa’s website, Philogene said of the move: “It feels amazing, it’s like I’m back at home.

“Unai spoke to me face-to-face and we had a very good conversation about my playing time. “He said I did well when I was here in pre-season last year and that I’m going to get chances this time. It also depends on me and how I play.”

Missing out on Philogene is a big blow to Everton and Ipswich

Whilst Villa have added more quality depth to their team as they prepare for a stint in the Champions League, Everton and Ipswich will be rueing their chances.

Everton should have signed Philogene as the perfect Anthony Gordon replacement but they have missed out on the skilful winger.

Following that outrageous rabona goal against Rotherham, Liam Rosenior hailed that moment of inspiration as ‘ridiculous’ when he spoke in the aftermath of the moment to the Hull Daily Mail.

Fans of Villa will certainly get behind him but Everton and Ipswich will surely be wondering what if.
