Italian media have weighed in on Aston Villa’s transfer interest in Real Madrid star Marco Asensio and how teams like AC Milan and Juventus simply can’t afford to compete with the Premier League giants from a financial aspect.
The 27-year-old is set to head for the Real Madrid exit door in July when his contract expires and the feeling is that he will join Unai Emery’s Aston Villa on a free transfer.
A three-time European Cup winner, if Aston Villa manage to add Marco Asensio to their ranks, then it would be a statement of intent, with Italian outlet CalcioMercarto reporting that they expect ‘surprise’ candidates Villa to bag his signature ahead of the likes of PSG, Juventus, AC Milan, Newcastle and Arsenal.
All the clubs in the race for Asensio can provide European football, but aside from Juventus and Villa, the rest would offer Champions League football.
That’s why it would be even more impressive if the long-range specialist ended up in the Midlands next season.
It is said that Emery himself is trying to push to get Asensio on board, who is set to play the final game of his trophy-winning Madrid career at the weekend when Carlo Ancelotti’s side host Athletic Club.

Rewind back to 12 months ago and Villa were bringing in Boubacar Kamara on a free from Marseille, at the time, many were left surprised by that deal.
Well, fast forward to the present and it seems as though the Europa Conference League side are, once again, making big moves in the market.
If this deal gets done, then it would be a quite outstanding purchase from the club for the ‘world-class’ star. Plus, it would set the ripple effect for the rest of the summer transfer window.
