Aston Villa have received a big boost in their hunt for a new right-back in the future transfer windows.
During the summer transfer window, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, who qualified for the UEFA Champions League under the Spaniard, were keen on a right-back addition to provide competition for Matty Cash.
HITC had reported that Villa had reached an agreement with Feyenoord over a deal for Lutsharel Geertruida with the Dutch defender looking set to move to the Midlands for £30 million.
However, Red Bull Leipzig snuck in at the 11th hour and completed the signing of Geertruida so Emery’s side were left empty-handed.

Denzel Dumfries new deal could be a boost for Aston Villa
Prior to their interest in Geertruida, links had emerged that Villa were keen on Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries and this would have seen Matty Cash move to AC Milan in a rather strange swap.
However, AC Milan decided to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham and Dumfries has now extended his stay at Inter which is a further blow for Villa.
However, according to Inter News, the new contract signed by the Dutch defender does not put an end to the transfer speculation and the Midlands club could attempt to sign Dumfries.
The newspaper reports that Dumfries is close to signing a renewal with Inter, worth around €4m a year plus bonuses.
The report says that the Premier League ‘remains in the background’ and there is actually a possibility that his renewal could be a ‘sort of fair compromise’ between the two parties.
Dumfries transfer could be possible next summer
According to the report, the transfer of Dumfries to the Premier League could happen next summer and this ‘compromise’ will come into action next summer.
Dumfries has previously been linked with a move to Manchester United but with the Red Devils signing Noussair Mazraoui this summer, the transfer of the Dutch defender may well not be of interest to those at Old Trafford and this could open the door for Villa.
Whether Aston Villa wants to return or try anything more concrete for the Dutchman remains to be seen but the opportunity may remain, even if he does sign a new contract as expected.
