Diego Carlos has liked Fabrizio Romano’s Instagram message which states that Aston Villa have ‘no plans’ to sell Douglas Luiz amid transfer interest from Arsenal.

Aston Villa and Arsenal have been here before. In 2022, those at the Emirates wanted to sign Douglas Luiz, but in the end, he signed a new contract

Since then, the 25-year-old has more than gone up a few levels. He is probably Aston Villa’s best player now – he was the club’s Player of the Year last season.

And, ahead of the January transfer window, Arsenal, who are sitting top of the Premier League table, want to sign the box-to-box midfielder.

It has been suggested that Douglas Luiz, whose current contract at Villa Park expires in 2026, is the ‘dream target’ of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

But transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano recently reported on Instagram that ‘it won’t be easy’ to sign the Brazil international because Aston Villa and Unai Emery want to ‘keep him’.

When the Italian journalist posted that message on Instagram, it was liked by Aston Villa defender Diego Carlos, who is close with the midfielder in B6.

Aston Villa won’t let Luiz go

Fans need to remember. This £100+ million inflation on players now, Villa started it when they sold Jack Grealish to Manchester City in 2021.

At that time, Villa were a mid-table team and nowhere near Europe, with Dean Smith at the helm.

Fast forward to the present and Villa are, not only in Europe, but sitting fourth in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Arsenal.

They are in a much stronger position now than they were a few years ago, plus the market has gone even crazier.

So, it’s going to take some serious dough to sign Luiz and you have to question if Arsenal are willing to get close to or over £100 million again.
