Aston Villa are far from done in the transfer market this summer despite already welcoming eight new signings to the club.

After wrestling with their PSR struggles earlier this summer, Aston Villa have dropped their financial shackles and reached deep into their pockets.

They have now spent just over £150million on eight new signings, including big-money deals for Amadou Onana and Ian Maatsen.

It has been a rocky pre-season for Villa’s new-look side with three consecutive defeats on their tour of the United States, but there is still a buzz around the club ahead of the new season.

With three weeks remaining until the transfer window slams shut, Villa are still plotting more summer moves, including a marquee £50million deal for Joao Felix.

They are also on the lookout for new defenders, although their latest target isn’t as high-profile as Felix.

Aston Villa make contact for Liverpool target

According to Dutch outlet Voetball International, Villa have made their interest in Lutsharel Geertruida known after contacting intermediaries to explore a deal.

The 24-year-old Feyenoord defender has one year remaining on his contract at the Eredivisie side.

The report adds that Geertruida is “waiting patiently” to decide his future with interest from Villa and RB Leipzig this summer.

The Dutch defender, who has “elite-level composure and ball control“, could arrive as a potential replacement for Diego Carlos, who has been linked with an exit this summer.

Carlos has had a poor pre-season at Villa and is one of the club’s top earners on a wage of over £100,000 per week.

Star was eager to join Liverpool

As revealed by HITC, Liverpool held talks over a potential deal for Geertruida earlier this summer.

He played under Arne Slot at Feyenoord and was “desperate” to follow the Dutchman to Anfield, according to SportBible.

It is understood that Liverpool had an interest in him even before Slot’s arrival, but the Reds have since set their sights elsewhere – including a deal for Martin Zubimendi.
