Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa attracted major interest last year but could new end up on the chopping block under Steven Gerrard.
The Athletic reported in February 2021 that both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were interested in signing Konsa.
As a boyhood Tottenham fan, that could have turned Konsa’s head but he instead signed a new contract with Villa until 2026.
Konsa had impressed alongside Tyrone Mings, leading to suggestions that he should be in the England squad.
The stage was set for Konsa to go from strength to strength this season but it just hasn’t quite happened.
With Steven Gerrard now planning to overhaul his Villa squad this summer, Konsa doesn’t appear to be safe from the axe.
The Mirror claim that Konsa and Tyrone Mings are both ‘under scrutiny’ and could be sold to allow Gerrard to mould the squad as he wants it.
That would be quite the turn of events for Konsa, who was being backed for a huge transfer just over a year ago.

The season isn’t over and the transfer window isn’t open, so there is more than enough time for Konsa to turn in some strong performance and prove he can be Gerrard’s man.
Yet with Villa leaking seven goals in Konsa’s last three games and the defender picking up a red card against Leeds in February, it’s been a tricky start to 2022.
A favourite of Dean Smith having also worked with him at Brentford, Konsa is bound to attract Premier League interest if Villa do make him available.
Yet it now seems a little unlikely that Liverpool or even Tottenham will be back in with a move for Konsa, whose future is suddenly in doubt.
