Aston Villa are interested in signing Liverpool central defender Joe Gomez to replace Axel Tuanzebe, according to The Athletic.
The report has claimed Villa manager Steven Gerrard wants to sign a centre-back in the January transfer window.
Tuanzebe has cut short his loan spell at Villa from Manchester United and has moved to Italian Napoli.
The Athletic have reported that Villa ‘like’ Liverpool centre-back Gomez as a short-term option.
However, according to the report, the Villans ‘know’ that Liverpool will not allow the 24-year-old centre-back to leave this month.

Joe Gomez to Aston Villa is unlikely
In our view, it is very unlikely that Gomez will leave Liverpool for Villa in the middle of the season.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will surely not allow a centre-back to leave in January, especially one who is as good and important as Gomez.
We saw last season the defensive injuries that Liverpool had.
And with COVID-19 now affecting Premier League clubs, Klopp will be wary of letting any of his players leave, especially on loan.
Now, Gomez is not guaranteed a place in the Liverpool starting lineup at the moment.
Virgil van Dijk always starts when he is fit, and Klopp also has Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate at his disposal as well.
However, we do not think that Gomez will push for a move to Villa, and Liverpool will not sell him go either.
