Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard wants to sign Joe Gomez from Liverpool to replace Manchester United-owned Axel Tuanzebe, according to The Express & Star.
Manchester United will reportedly recall Tuanzebe from his loan spell at Villa and then send him back out on loan to Napoli.
The 24-year-old English defender is claimed to be open to the idea of moving to Italy and play for Serie A outfit Napoli.
So, Villa are looking for a defender to replace Tuanzebe.
And, according to The Express & Star, they have identified Liverpool’s 24-year-old Gomez as a replacement.
Joe Gomez from Liverpool to Aston Villa is unlikely
In our opinion, it is unlikely that Liverpool will sanction an exit for Gomez in the January transfer window.

The Sunday Mirror (28/11, p72) reported that Villa manager Gerrard wants to sign the England international on a loan deal in January.
The same publication claimed the following week that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will not let Gomez, 24, leave on loan.
In our view, Liverpool will not let as important a player as Gomez leave on loan this month.
We saw how Liverpool struggled when they had injury issues last season.
With the Reds aiming to win the Premier League and the Champions League this season, Klopp will surely not want to weaken his squad.
