It was suggested on Wednesday that Steve Bruce could allow the midfield mainstay to leave this month.

Aston Villa fans were shocked on Wednesday night by a report claiming that the club could allow vital midfield man Mile Jedinak to leave this month.

Jedinak only joined Villa in the summer in a £4 million move from Premier League side Crystal Palace, and has been a regular in the side under both Steve Bruce and his predecessor – and the man who signed him – Roberto di Matteo.

If anything, the 32-year-old Australia captain has only become more important to the side since Bruce’s arrival, with his absence from the 1-0 defeat at Cardiff City on Monday the first Championship fixture he had not started under the new manager.

However, regardless of his regular place in the side, a report from the Mirror on Wednesday night included a line claiming that the midfielder could be allowed to leave the club this month as Bruce looks to free up funds and space for a January overhaul.

It would certainly be a huge surprise to see Jedinak leave. Central midfield is one of Villa’s thinnest areas and the experienced player has been the undisputed main man in the centre of the pitch for Villa this season.

To sell him would make little sense. At 32, Jedinak is unlikely to have much sell-on value, and his departure would leave Villa frighteningly light in midfield.

Villa fans certainly did not take too well to the suggestion, and they voiced their discontent on Twitter.
