Aston Villa have signed James Bree.

Aston Villa have clinched the signing of promising full-back James Bree, the club announced this morning.

Bree, 19, has signed a four and a half year contract at the club and followed the acquisition of Nottingham Forest midfielder Henri Lansbury at the end of last week.

Bree had been pursued by Premier League side West Bromwich Albion, HITC Sport understood, and Villa snapping him up is a big coup.

The right-back had been a regular for Barnsley this season, making 22 appearances in all competitions, including 18 Championship starts.

He will add competition at Villa for veteran defender Alan Hutton, giving manager Steve Bruce an interesting selection decision to make in the short term, while in the long term it is expected that Bree will nail down the position as his own.

Villa’s next game is away at Brentford next Tuesday evening and Bree is expected to be available.
