HITC Sport understands a bid is imminent from Premier League outfit

West Bromwich Albion are lining up a bid for Barnsley’s highly-rated full-back James Bree, HITC Sport understands.

Championship Aston Villa were understood to be leading the chase for Bree, who has been attracting scouts from a host of clubs in recent months.

Now – after tracking him closely in recent months – HITC Sports has learned that West Brom are ready to launch a bid for Bree, who Tony Pulis believes will fit ideally into his squad.

19-year-old Bree is a homegrown product of Barnsley’s increasingly prolific youth set-up which has seen the likes of John Stones and Mason Holgate move to the Premier League in recent years.

Now Bree is being tipped to make the same move this month – although Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom is known to be keen to keep him until the summer at least.

West Brom are ready to bid around £5million which could be too much for The Tykes to turn down.

Despite being just 19, Bree has made over 50 first-team appearances for the club – after making his debut aged just 16.
