Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Aston Villa and their seemingly failed move for Ismaila Sarr.
It was reported over the weekend that Villa were on the verge of signing the Senegalese winger from Watford, but, on Monday, the deal collapsed.
According to Romano, there is no issue between Villa and Watford over the fee, but the deal fell apart on the player’s side, leaving Villa less than impressed.
Indeed, according to the journalist, the Midlands club are far from happy with this situation.
What’s been said?
Romano shared what he knows about this deal’s collapse.
“At the moment it’s over, it’s off. It’s a crazy deal because it was agreed between Watford and Aston Villa, it was done for €25m plus €3m in add-ons. Everything was agreed and Ismaila Sarr was ready to complete his move to Aston Villa,” Romano said.
“Sometimes in negotiations it’s not just the player or the club. There are other factors, according to my information this deal collapsed on the player’s side not the club’s side. There is no agreement on Ismaila Sarr’s side, it has collapsed, Aston Villa are not happy with what happened with the player’s side, and so they will focus on other players now.”
Must have something else lined up
Sarr has seemingly been unable to agree terms with Villa, and we have to imagine that he has something else lined up if he’s not agreed to head to Villa Park.
Indeed, Sarr is way too good to continue playing Championship football, and a move to the Midlands really would’ve represented a logical next step for the winger.
However, for one reason or another, Sarr hasn’t agreed to join Steven Gerrard’s side, and we suspect that it may be because he has something else in the pipeline.
The 24-year-old is certainly a player to keep an eye on as we enter the final days of the transfer window.
