Aston Villa are keen on Duje Caleta-Car and Steven Gerrard is prioritising the signing of a defender after watching the Marseille star.
Villa have endured mixed results since Gerrard’s appointment back in November.
It’s clear that Villa need reinforcements this summer and Steven Gerrard really needs backing with funds.
A new defender appears to be on Gerrard’s wish list and the likes of Joe Gomez and Victor Nelsson have been linked of late.
Another name in the mix is Caleta-Car as he once again finds himself at the centre of Premier League rumours.
Aston Villa are keen on Duje Caleta-Car
The Daily Mail claim that Gerrard has prioritised the signing of Phillipe Coutinho, a holding midfielder and a centre back.
The same report claims that Caleta-Car is a name of interest for the centre back role at Villa.
Gerrard has been to France to watch Caleta-Car in action for Marseille alongside teammate and fellow Villa target Boubacar Kamara.
Whilst Kamara is out of contract this summer, Caleta-Car still has a year left on his Marseille deal.
That could still present a chance for Villa to land a bargain with Marseille surely open to selling the Croatian star before he loves for nothing.
Caleta-Car, 25, is a huge presence at 6ft 4in tall and could help solidify Villa’s back line.

Caleta-Car to Liverpool transfer collapsed
Some Premier league fans may remember Caleta-Car from a collapsed move to Liverpool in January 2021.
Liverpool were desperately chasing centre back signings before the transfer deadline.
They ended up signing Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies to tide them over until Virgil van Dijk returned from injury and Ibrahima Konate signed.
One of their other targets though was Caleta-Car.
RMC Sport reported that Caleta-Car was all set to travel to Liverpool to finalise a late transfer.
Liverpool had a deal on the verge of completion but Marseille pulled the plug at the last minute.
Caleta-Car has even confirmed the offer from Liverpool but it wasn’t to be.
Almost 18 months on, Caleta-Car could land his Premier League move – and it may be under a Liverpool legend in Gerrard.
