Ashley Westwood has told the Express and Star that he had to leave Aston Villa as things had ‘gone stale’.
Westwood agreed to join Burnley on deadline day, as Villa parted ways with the central-midfielder, who divided opinion amongst the Midlands side’s fan base.

Westwood was booed by his own supporters at one point this season, and he admits that he wants to feel more appreciated at Turf Moor.

“I like to be appreciated and I think I will definitely get that here,” Westwood said. “Things had got a bit stale at Villa.”
Westwood’s commitment to Villa was never called into question, but his supposed lack of attacking intent often frustrated.

And, after Villa signed up three central midfielders during the January transfer window, Westwood slipped down the pecking order with Steve Bruce’s side.

Westwood made 23 appearances for the claret and blues this season, and Burnley saw enough in him to suggest he could make an impact in the Premier League.
Burnley are currently performing well in England’s top tier, with Sean Dyche’s side sat in 10th place after beating Leicester City in their latest outing.
