Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told Sky Sports that Gabriel Martinelli has a bright future ahead of him.

Arteta has said that he understands why some fans and pundits are calling for Martinelli to get regular starts in the Arsenal team.

The Spaniard has added that the Brazilian forward is developing well at the Gunners and has a bright future ahead of him.

However, the Arsenal boss has made it clear that the fans need to be a little bit patient with the 19-year-old Brazilian forward.

Arteta told Sky Sports about Martinelli: “When the team is not winning enough football matches, we always look for someone else to do it. But we can name a few of those.

“I respect that, and Gabi is doing really well. He is doing better every day, he is getting the right development.

“We have to be a little bit patient with him but he has a bright future at the club and he will have all the opportunities that he needs to show us how good he is and the career he can have with us.”

Progressing at Arsenal

Martinelli joined Arsenal from Ituano FC in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by Football.London to be worth £5.1 million.

Martinelli made six starts and eight substitute appearances in the Premier League and made five starts and two substitute appearances in the Europa League for Arsenal last season, according to WhoScored.

So far this campaign, the Brazilian forward has made three starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League and has made three substitute appearances in the Europa League for the Gunners so far this campaign, according to WhoScored.

Martinelli has had injury problems, but the Brazilian is now fit, and perhaps next season he will start to play regularly.
