Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has suggested to Football.London that Aaron Ramsdale could make his Premier League debut for the Gunners against Norwich City this weekend.

What’s the story?

The Gunners will return to action on Saturday when they take on Norwich at the Emirates Stadium in North London.

The flight carrying Bernd Leno and the rest of the Germany national football team had to make an emergency landing in Edinburgh on the trip back from Iceland.

This has led to concerns that Leno may not be able to feature against Norwich.

What has Mikel Arteta said?

Arteta has suggested that Ramsdale could start this weekend and has also praised the 23-year-old English goalkeeper.

The Arsenal boss told Football.London about Ramsdale: “He’s doing really good. He’s a big competitors, someone who is really pushing in training sessions.

“We knew that when we made the recruitment process with the team. Now we have two very different goalkeepers, two different age qualities but both really good. That’s what we should be aiming for.”

The Arsenal boss added when asked if Ramsdale could start against Norwich: “Any player can start, that’s why we want the competition to raise the competition in each position. That’s why we recruited Aaron and we know Bernd what a fantastic goalkeeper he is.”

Aaron Ramsdale to start for Arsenal?

Arsenal will be determined to pick up all three points from their fourth Premier League game of the season.

Arteta’s side have lost their opening three league fixtures.

Ramsdale joined the Gunners from Sheffield United in the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old has already played his debut for Arsenal, playing for the North London club in their 6-0 hammering of West Bromwich Albion in the EFL Cup last month.

The goalkeeper went straight to the substitutes’ bench for Arsenal’s following game, which was against Manchester City in the Premier League.

Playing Ramsdale against Norwich and giving him a chance to make his Premier League debut for the Gunners in front of the Emirates Stadium faithful may not be a bad idea.
