Ben Foster has claimed that Arsenal signing Aaron Ramsdale is a ‘weird one’, as he told his own YouTube channel.

The Watford goalkeeper thinks bringing in another shot-stopper for the North London club wasn’t a position that ‘urgently’ needing filling this summer.

It may have been long-winded, but the Gunners took nearly all summer to land Ramsdale’s talents from Sheffield United, despite negotiating with a Championship club.

Since moving to the Emirates, Ramsdale has been handed a start and that was the club’s thumping win against West Brom in the League Cup, although he is waiting for that Premier League nod.

Even though Foster questioned Edu bringing in Ramsdale, he thinks the Englishman will eventually take his place as the club’s number one goalkeeper.

“Aaron Ramsdale, again, it’s a lot of money to spend on a second-choice goalie,” said Foster.

“It’s a weird one. It’s such a weird (transfer). If there ever was one position that they don’t really need to fill then it’s the goalkeeper.

“There are so many other positions that need filling. A lot more urgently than the goalkeeper.

“However, I do like Aaron Ramsdale, he’s a proper goalkeeper. And when he gets his chance to play then he will show that he is a proper goalkeeper too.”

Bernd Leno is out-of-contract in North London next summer and it seems as though Ramsdale will be his long-term replacement.

But given that Mikel Arteta’s side conceded five at Manchester City last time out then he might get his shot in the Premier League a lot earlier than he perhaps expected.

Leno didn’t exactly do himself any favours at the Etihad and it will be interesting to see if Arteta drops him after the international break.

Only Norwich, Wolves and Arsenal are sitting on zero points after three games.

There is certainly more pressure on Arteta from those sides, as the Gunners will lock horns with Norwich next week.
