Arsenal’s January transfer window was disappointing. There are no two ways about it.
The Gunners only made one signing in the shape of Auston Trusty, but he won’t be arriving in north London until the summer after he was loaned back to Colorado Rapids.
There’s a sense of doom and gloom around the Emirates after a disappointing January window, but there is reason to be optimistic.
Indeed, Arsenal’s summer window could be absolutely incredible.
The Gunners’ wage bill was reduced significantly in January, and it could become even lighter in the coming months.
Indeed, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Eddie Nketiah, Mohamed Elneny and Alexandre Lacazette could all soon leave on free transfers, which according to Spotrac would save Arsenal £529,000-a-week.
Factor in that Sead Kolasinac and Calum Chambers have already gone alongside the fact that the likes of Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi could also leave on a permanent basis after their current loan deals, and Arsenal may well end up shaving a ridiculous amount of money off of their wage bill.

That money could be reinvested into the squad, and there’s also reason to believe that the Gunners have the ability to spend big right now. After all, they were making some big offers for Dusan Vlahovic last month.
The money put aside for Vlahovic remains unspent, while another upcoming swathe of departures will free up so much cash for the Gunners.
All of these elements seemingly point towards Arsenal enjoying what could be, quite simply, an absolutely insane summer transfer window.
If Edu and Arsenal can get their planning right, this summer could very well be an era-defining window that catapults the north London club to the next level.
Yes, January was disappointing for Arsenal, but the summer shouldn’t be.
