The Independent journalist Miguel Delaney has suggested on Twitter that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could make a bid for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha in the final days of the summer transfer window if they are unable to sign Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Arsenal linked with Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha

The well-known and well-respected journalist has said that Wolves are “highly reluctant” to sell Neto, which could see Arsenal make a move for Palace and Ivory Coast international winger Zaha.

The former Manchester United player is out of contract at the Eagles at the end of the season.

Previous interest in Zaha

Zaha has been linked with Arsenal before as well.

In May 2020, former Arsenal head coach Unai Emery told The Guardian that he wanted to sign Zaha in the summer of 2019, but the Gunners decided to bring in Nicolas Pepe from Lille instead.

Back-up to Pedro Neto

Last week, well-known and well-respected journalist Dean Jones said on The Done Deal Show that Arsenal are interested in signing Zaha, described as “absolutely devastating” by former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell on The Highbury Squad podcast last week.

Jones said that Arsenal have Zaha “in the background”, as they are looking to sign Neto or Pino as priority.

Immediate impact at Arsenal

Zaha is one of the best wingers in the Premier League, and given that he is 29 and is at the top of his game, he would be able to make an immediate impact at the Gunners if he made the move to the Emirates Stadium this week.
