According to VG in Norway, it’s now ‘only a matter of time’ until Sander Berge leaves Sheffield United amid links to Arsenal.

It’s stated that Berge’s contract includes a release clause of £35million due to Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League.

However, Berge could still go for less, and the press in Norway seemingly believe that he will be sold sooner or later – and to a top-half Premier League team.

Arsenal’s interest in Berge

Arsenal are believed to be very keen on Berge, but the Sheffield Star reported in May that they wouldn’t pay that £35million fee.

The Gunners still hope to strike a deal eventually, but it may take some time to negotiate the fee down.

With Granit Xhaka’s future unclear and Dani Ceballos back at Real Madrid, Arsenal need to find at least one midfielder – and the giant Berge could fit the bill, especially with so much untapped potential.

Double reunion would be ideal for Arsenal

If Arsenal do strike a deal for Berge, the move would see him reunite with Dutchman Albert Stuivenberg – Mikel Arteta’s assistant.

Stuivenberg coached Berge at Genk, and that prior relationship could be vital in the race for Berge, who Stuivenberg branded a ‘future leader‘.

In an ideal world, Berge would also reunite with Norway teammate and close friend Martin Odegaard, but let’s take this one deal at a time for the Gunners.
