According to the Sheffield Star, Arsenal officials will try to get Sheffield United back to the negotiating table over Sander Berge.
Its claimed that United want around £35million for Berge and are not budging on his asking price despite their relegation.
Arsenal are keen, but seemingly aren’t prepared to pay that kind of money for a player who cost Sheffield United £22million less than 18 months ago.
The Gunners will though attempt to lure the Blades back to the negotiating table later this summer in the hope of discussing a reduced fee.
United have allegedly reminded interested clubs that the £22million they paid wasn’t what Berge is really worth, because he had entered the final stages of his contract at Genk.
Slavisa Jokanovic’s men are in no hurry to sell such a key player, though interested clubs may point out that he has only played twice in 2021 due to a major injury.
Arsenal do need to find another midfielder to partner Thomas Partey, even more so if Granit Xhaka chooses to leave this summer.
Berge posted a photo alongside Arsenal loanee Martin Odegaard last week, and the Gunners would no doubt love to have both men signed up for next season and beyond.
That won’t come cheap though, and if Arsenal want to grind down United’s asking price for Berge, they may have to be very patient.
