Arsenal and Tottenham were offered Diego Carlos before Aston Villa swooped in with a deal that virtually came out of nowhere today.
Tottenham clinched Champions League football on Sunday afternoon, beating Norwich City 5-0 to secure fourth place.
That means Spurs finished above Arsenal and left the Gunners devastated to miss out on Champions League action.
Tottenham may now feel they have an advantage over Arsenal should they target the same players this summer.
The likes of Youri Tielemans and Gabriel Jesus have been linked with both clubs this summer and you can now add Diego Carlos to the list.
Arsenal and Tottenham were offered Diego Carlos before Aston Villa deal
90Min report that Arsenal and Tottenham were both made aware that Diego Carlos was available this summer.
It’s stated that Carlos was offered up to Arsenal, Aston Villa, Tottenham and even West Ham.
Aston Villa have now confirmed that Carlos has joined them in a quickfire deal.
Villa seem to be very good at this.
Deals for Danny Ings and Calum Chambers came out of nowhere too, so they’re doing a great job of keepings things under wraps.
That means Carlos will be heading to Arsenal and Tottenham next season, but only as a Villa player.
Tottenham were keen in January and some reports suggested that Spurs offered Giovani Lo Celso in exchange for Carlos.
That deal didn’t happen and Carlos was forced to see out the season at Sevilla as no Premier League move materialised.

Carlos, 29, has been a solid defender since joining Sevilla from Nantes back in 2019.
The Brazilian ace has been so good that Spanish football expert Terry Gibson branded him a ‘sensational’ defender.
In truth, it was a little hard to see Arsenal or Tottenham making a move.
Arsenal paid big money for a defender last summer in Ben White and his partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes looks pretty settled.
Tottenham may want a centre back this summer but it makes more sense to target a natural left-sided defender for Antonio Conte’s back three.
Carlos instead heads to Villa and will be looking to show that he belongs in the Premier League.
