Tottenham Hotspur have attempted a cheeky swap deal for Newcastle United target Diego Carlos by offering Giovani Lo Celso to Sevilla.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who claim that Tottenham are trying to clear out room for Rodrigo Bentancur.
Tottenham are on the verge of signing Juventus midfielder Bentancur but need to get shut of some midfielders too.
Tottenham seemingly don’t want to sign Bentancur whilst also carrying Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli.
In an attempt to clear room for Bentancur, Tottenham are understood to have offered Lo Celso out to Sevilla.
Tottenham want a Sevilla star in exchange though, with defender Diego Carlos believed to be wanted in North London.
It seems unlikely that Sevilla will take that deal, especially having fought so hard to keep Diego Carlos out of Newcastle’s clutches.
Newcastle have been chasing Diego Carlos for most of January, and Sky Sports claim that the Brazilian wants to join the Magpies.
Newcastle haven’t been able to strike a deal though, meaning Tottenham may look to swoop in with an offer of their own.
This swap idea does make some sense. The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Tottenham were showing an interest in Diego Carlos.
The Athletic then claimed that Tottenham would like to swap Lo Celso in the final days of the transfer window.
Football London reported Sevilla’s interest in Lo Celso, though whether the former Real Betis star would join their bitter rivals remains to be seen.

Add in that Sky Sports believe a mystery Premier League club have offered a swap deal for Diego Carlos and all signs point to Tottenham and Lo Celso.
Branded ‘sensational’ by La Liga expert Terry Gibson, Diego Carlos is a quality defender but is he really what Tottenham need?
Tottenham already have an aggressive defender in Cristian Romero, and adding a similar style of defender in Diego Carlos may be a risk.
Add in that Tottenham need a left-footed centre back more than a right-footed one, and a move for the Brazilian doesn’t quite seem like a priority.
Still, Tottenham may see Sevilla’s interest in Lo Celso as a chance to swoop in for Diego Carlos; let’s see if they can succeed where Newcastle failed.
