Jack Wilshere has said on Sky Sports Premier League (8:21pm, October 2, 2021) that most Arsenal fans would accept finishing above Tottenham Hotspur as a successful season.

The former Arsenal midfielder made the comments live on Sky Sports following the Gunners’ goalless draw with Brighton and Hove Albion away from home in the Premier League this evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side are now ninth in the league table with 10 points from seven matches.

Nuno’s Spurs are 12th with nine points from six games.

Wilshere said: “I think most fans would accept finishing above Tottenham, but I think realistically with the young team and the changes, new players that have come in, I think getting back into the Europa League would be a successful season.”

Finishing above Tottenham would be great for Arsenal fans, but as Wilshere rightly notes, the Gunners need to do better than that.

Arsenal are not playing in Europe this season, and the first step should be to get back into the Europa League.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea are likely to be the top four.

Tottenham, Leicester City, Everton and West Ham will be the competitors for Arsenal if they aim for the Europa League places in the Premier League table this season.

Can Arsenal do it?

The Gunners have a good team and are doing well at the moment.

Arsenal should be optimistic and work towards it.
