Arsenal are said to be keen on striking a deal with Aston Villa for England international Ollie Watkins this summer.

It was Rudy Galetti who claimed that Mikel Arteta wants the Aston Villa No.11 at the Emirates Stadium, with the Spaniard allegedly asking Edu to negotiate an agreement.

Now, Watkins has hit yet another landmark.

What’s the story?

Well, it was only in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Chelsea that Watkins joined Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah in hitting double figures for goals in each of the last three Premier League campaigns.

Now, following his goal in Aston Villa’s 2-1 win over Leicester on Tuesday, the Arsenal target has scored in six consecutive away games in the Premier League.

That hasn’t been done since Sergio Aguero also managed it back in 2017.

It is truly a tremendous achievement for Watkins, who simply can’t stop scoring under Unai Emery.

The 27-year-old has now scored 11 goals in 28 Premier League appearances this season, with eight of those coming in his last ten outings.

Ollie Watkins may be unsure about Arsenal move

Of course – if Arsenal are genuinely interested in Watkins – he will surely find it hard to ignore, given the fact he would be playing Champions League football next season for one of Europe’s best sides.

However, the £28m man may also be unsure about the move, due to the competition at the Emirates Stadium.

Watkins would have to compete with Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard for a starting role up front, with Arteta only tending to use one central option in between Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

With Folarin Balogun also returning from his loan spell at Reims this summer – where he has scored 18 goals this season – we simply can’t see how Watkins would get the same amount of playing time he receives at Villa Park.
