Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal were linked with Wilfried Zaha and Emerson Royal in the summer transfer window, and the Crystal Palace winger and the Tottenham Hotspur right-back were in action yesterday.

90min reported in April 2021 that Arsenal wanted to sign Zaha from Palace in the summer transfer window.

The Athletic reported this month that the Gunners wanted to bring Emerson from Barcelona this summer before Tottenham swooped in.

Spurs paid Barcelona £25.73 million for Emerson, according to Sky Sports.

Palace took on Tottenham at Selhurst Park in the Premier League yesterday.

The Eagles won the London derby 3-0.

Zaha scored the opening goal from the penalty spot and was a problem for Emerson throughout the game.

The former Manchester United winger’s movement, skills and pace was too much to handle at times for Emerson, who was making his debut for Spurs.

Some Arsenal fans were very impressed by Zaha, but not by Emerson, saying on Twitter that they are pleased that the North London club did not sign the 22-year-old Brazil international right-back.

Arsenal signed Takehiro Tomiyasu, who can play as a right-back or as centre-back, from Bologna in the summer transfer window, and the Japan international played well on his debut against Norwich City yesterday.
