Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes has shared his thoughts after the Gunners’ 2-1 New Year’s Day defeat to Manchester City, where the Brazilian was sent off.
Taking to his official Twitter account, Gabriel vented his thoughts on a match that was a sucker-punch blow for Arsenal. Bukayo Saka fired the hosts ahead before City were awarded a soft penalty and Gabriel was dismissed for a second yellow card in five minutes.
It was a frustrating day for the Gunners and one that supporters will be questioning how they didn’t get anything from. Arsenal took the game to City and were the better side on the day, yet a more than questionable refereeing display from Stuart Atwell played against the north London side.
The referee refused to award Arsenal a penalty in the first half for a similar incident that saw City win won in the second half, and the sending off of Gabriel was harsh given how lenient the fouls were.
Indeed, it was a result that could play a role in the race for top-four given that Tottenham and West Ham also won on Saturday. And for Gabriel, he made his thoughts very well known on social media after the full-time whistle.
The Brazilian posted: “Hard to accept it, but only God knows everything! Proud to be part of this team!!! Amazing spirit! We will keep working together, fighting until the end!! For this team, I will run until I die!! Let’s keep improving in 2022!!!”
Gabriel rallying cry will spur Arsenal to respond after City blow

A £23m signing last summer, Gabriel has been central to Arsenal’s resurgence this season. And whilst it is a blow that the defender was sent off against City, there’s no doubt that the Brazilian will again be key to the Gunners’ upcoming matches.
With Tottenham next up in the Premier League, Arsenal can make a huge statement if they can once again best their north London rivals. And three points will firmly put the Gunners back in the race for top four.
