Arsenal have made some fantastic signings this summer, but there is a case to make that acquiring Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City is the best piece of business the Gunners have done this summer.

The Ukrainian is perfect for Mikel Arteta’s side. He plugs two problem positions with his versatility, he’s quality and as a Pep Guardiola student he’ll settle in perfectly into Arteta’s proto-Pep system.

It’s fair to say that there’s plenty to be excited about with this deal, but somehow, just a fortnight after it became official, this deal may be about to look even better.

Indeed, prior to Zinchenko being announced, Arsenal had a two-man shortlist at left-back, Zinchenko and Anderlecht’s Sergio Gomez.

The former Manchester City man was always the Gunners’ top target, but if he proved to be unattainable a move for Gomez was on the cards.

Luckily for Arsenal, Zinchenko was a rather simple deal to do as Manchester City had seemingly already identified his replacement – Marc Cucurella, but now it looks as though the curly-haired Spaniard will be headed to Chelsea instead.

That leaves City without Zinchenko and without Cucurella, so who are they turning to next? Well, according to some reports the Premier League champions are going to look at Sergio Gomez.

The fact that City are now looking at Arsenal’s second-choice target after the Gunners took Zinchenko from them makes this move for the Gunners look even better.

Think about it, City have sold Zinchenko to Arsenal and are now going for a player that the Gunners didn’t deem to be as good as the Ukrainian.

Simply put, there aren’t many quality left-backs on the market, and after missing out on their number one target, City are having to go for a man who Arsenal didn’t deem to be on Zinchenko’s level.

Due to the Cucurella decision, City may already be regretting selling Zinchenko, and that makes this deal look so much better for the Gunners.
