Arsenal are said to be interested in bringing Yunus Musah back to north London, although Liverpool have also made him a target.
It was Fabrizio Romano who revealed that the Gunners want to sign the United States international, who left the Emirates Stadium to join Valencia in 2019.
Now, however, a rumour from Anfield should worry Arsenal.
What’s the story?
Well, according to 90min, Liverpool have made the first move to sign Musah, as Jürgen Klopp aims to overhaul his creaking midfield department on Merseyside.
The Reds have made contact with the 20-year-old’s representatives to make their interest known, and it is now up to Valencia to decide whether they want to cash in or not.
Musah’s agent – Giacomo Guidolin – recently told Calciomercato that Valencia want €40m (£34m) to sell the American.
Now, we believe Arsenal fans should be worried by this rumour.
Liverpool well placed to sign Musah ahead of Arsenal
In our view, there are multiple reasons why this rumour should concern Arsenal.
For a start, Liverpool would evoke memories of Serge Gnabry if they sign Musah and he shines in the Premier League.
The Germany international left Arsenal for Werder Bremen back in 2016, before going on to become one of the best forwards in Europe at Bayern Munich, and those at the Emirates Stadium must wish he never departed.
Secondly, Liverpool are actually well placed to sign Musah ahead of Arsenal, given their lack of midfield options.
Klopp has an ageing midfield department at Anfield – Jordan Henderson is 32, James Milner turns 37 in January, while the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are very injury prone.
Of course, Arsenal sit top of the Premier League while the Reds are sixth, but if Musah wants a regular starting role, it would presumably be more likely at Liverpool.
Furthermore, despite the current situation, Musah arguably has a better chance of winning trophies at Liverpool.
The Reds lifted the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season, and have also won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup under Klopp.
