Jorge Jesus has been sacked by Benfica, and this piece of news could be of interest to Arsenal supporters.

According to Tore Dorces earlier this month, Arsenal have been in contact with Jorge Jesus about potentially becoming the Gunners’ manager in the future.

Mikel Arteta’s job is seemingly safe for now. After all, he has Arsenal back in the top four, and they’re flying.

However, as we all know, things can change ever so quickly in football, and as Arteta’s track record over the past 24 months has shown, things aren’t always rosy for the Spaniard at Arsenal.

Arsenal have reportedly been sounding out potential replacements just in case things do go south with Arteta, and Jesus is one man they’ve supposedly had conversations with.

Of course, these reports don’t necessarily mean that Arteta’s job is under any imminent threat, but the Gunners seemingly have a contingency plan and Jesus may play a part in that.

If the worst came to the worst and Arteta did have to be relieved of his duties, you’d have to imagine that Arsenal may take another look at Jesus now that he’s available without any compensation.

Factor in that Jesus also reportedly wants the Arsenal job and this seems like a potentially good fit if Arsenal were left scrambling for a new gaffer.

Things certainly didn’t work out for Jesus at Benfica this time around, but let’s not forget, this is a very talented manager.

Jurgen Klopp described him as ‘unbelievable’ in the past, and he’s also won three Portuguese League titles as well as a Copa Libertadores.

There’s seemingly no need for speculation about the Arsenal manager’s job right now, but Jesus’ situation is seemingly one to keep an eye on in the long-term.
