Sol Campbell has told talkSPORT that he would happily help Mikel Arteta fix the defensive issues Arsenal have endured during the opening month of the Premier League season.
The Gunners sit rock bottom of the top-flight table after losing their first three games of the campaign. They, along with Wolves, are also the only teams to have not scored, while conceding nine – only 2020/21 Championship winners Norwich (10) have shipped more.
Arteta is now under immense pressure to start turning things around after the September international break. The Telegraph reported he had five games to show he is the man for the job. But the Spaniard lost the first of those vital fixtures against Manchester City 5-0.

Campbell believes Arsenal have a blind spot in defence that his know-how can help Arteta remedy. The Gunners icon would happily return to his former club in an advisory role to lend a hand. Even if Arteta only brought him back to London Colney on a part-time role.
“I’d love to go there and help them out, I would,” Campbell said. “There is a serious problem there and I’m happy to help, even if it’s a couple of days a week. The tricks of the trade and little things, there is a blind spot there and I’d help them out all day long.”
Campbell has been out of work since leaving his position as Southend United manager last June by mutual consent. He oversaw 23 fixtures during an eight-month stint at Roots Hall, but won just four games across all competitions.
Should Arteta bring Campbell in to help solve Arsenal issues?
Arteta will be desperate to fly out of the international break and show Arsenal’s backbone against Norwich next week. It will be crucial for the Spaniard to oversee a win at home to the Canaries for his job. But it will also be important to kickstart their season immediately.
Whether Arteta wants to bring Campbell in to help solve the Gunners’ defensive fragility remains to be seen, though. The two-time Premier League winner was a formidable centre-back with Arsenal, but that has not transferred into management, yet.
Southend conceded 47 times in their 23 games under Campbell as they fell out of League One. The Shrimpers also only kept one clean sheet – coming against Tranmere Rovers.
