Arsenal are keen to sign Fares Chaibi from Toulouse in January, a player who has been compared to Riyad Mahrez.

That is according to Foot Mercato in France, who claim that Mikel Arteta will face competition from Sevilla in the race to sign the 19-year-old sensation.

Arsenal want Fares Chaibi

Well, the current crop of Arsenal stars are performing very well as they sit five points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, and the next generation should also fill supporters with excitement.

Arsenal have the likes of Ethan Nwaneri coming through, Folarin Balogun up there with Lionel Messi in the Ligue 1 scoring charts while on loan at Reims, and Arteta now plans to add Chaibi to his crop of young talent.

The teenager is already having a big impact in one of Europe’s top five leagues, scoring two goals while also providing four assists in 13 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season.

Remarkably, Chaibi had never played a single second of first-team football before the current campaign began, which makes his impressive displays all the more eye catching.

Arsenal targeting Mahrez 2.0

Arteta was interested in reuniting with Mahrez back in the summer of 2021 after Manchester City put the Algeria international up for sale – according to the Daily Mail.

A move failed to materialise, although it is interesting to see the Gunners now focusing their attention on Chaibi, who has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Mahrez amid comparisons.

It was the Express who likened Chaibi to the Manchester City No.26 when writing about Arsenal’s interest.

Aside from the fact they’re both Algerian, the pair are very similar players from a stylistic viewpoint.

Like Mahrez, Chaibi is able to play anywhere across the frontline, and boasts fantastic technical ability.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Arsenal could even sign the Toulouse No.28 as soon as January.
