According to La Gazzetta Dello Sport (print edition, page 21, July 10, 2021), Tottenham Hotspur could complete the signing of Takehiro Tomiyasu inside the next two weeks, meaning that Arsenal will miss out.

What’s the story?

La Gazzetta Dello Sport (print edition, page 21, July 10, 2021) are reporting that Tottenham are closing in on a deal to sign Tomiyasu from Bologna in the summer transfer window.

Spurs could complete the signing of the Japan international defender before the start of the Olympics on July 23.

That’s just 13 days from now.

Tottenham and Bologna are close to reaching a compromise over the €25 million (£21.36m) transfer fee that the Italian club are looking for.

Tomiyasu wants to get his future sorted before he sets off for the Olympics with Japan.

And it seems that a deal could be completed by then.

Blow for Arsenal?

This latest report is a blow for Arsenal, who have also been linked with the 22-year-old, who can play as a centre-back or as a right-back.

Il Resto del Carlino reported this week Arsenal are ‘upping the ante’ in their pursuit of the defender.

However, it seems that Mikel Arteta’s side will miss out on the Japan international now.

Ben White is reportedly close to joining Arsenal, so the Gunners need not worry about signing a new centre-back.

However, since Tomiyasu can also play as a right-back, if Hector Bellerin leaves, then the Gunners could have used the Japan international in that position.
