Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are interested in Corinthians goalkeeper Matheus Donelli, according to Bola Vip.
The report in the Brazilian news outlet has claimed that Arsenal have been following Donelli, who is a client of super-agent Jorge Mendes, since 2019.
Arsenal Technical Director Edu received a 19-page a document about the Brazilian goalkeeper.
The report has added that Donelli’s representatives have told Corinthians that he is looking for a new club after they are close to signing Ivan from Ponte Preta.
Donelli, 19, reportedly does not see a long-term future for himself at Corinthians.
Should Arsenal sign Matheus Donelli?
In our view, Arsenal should at least consider the possibility of signing Donelli from Corinthians in the January transfer window.
Now, of course, much will depend on how much transfer fee Corinthians would want for the Brazilian youngster this month, or indeed if they would be willing to sell him.
In our opinion, if the transfer fee is not much, then it would not be a bad idea for Arsenal to sign the goalkeeper.
Edu seems to be well aware of his Brazilian compatriot Donelli, who is just a teenager and could develop into a brilliant goalkeeper in the coming years.
Aaron Ramsdale is the clear first-choice goalkeeper at Arsenal at the moment.
Bernd Leno is the back-up, and there is speculation that the Germany international could leave at the end of the season.
So, Arsenal could need to sign a new goalkeeper, and we think that Donelli should at least be on their radar.
