Arsenal are hoping to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez – but Manchester United are offering Anthony Martial in exchange for the Argentinian.

That’s according to The Times, who claim that Arsenal have Martinez on their wish list as they chase two new strikers this summer.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are both out of contract this summer and currently look set to walk away from the club.

That means Mikel Arteta needs reinforcements this summer and Martinez is just one name Arsenal are considering signing.

Inter Milan may need to sell players to raise funds this summer and Martinez would certainly bring in big cash.

It’s stated that Martinez could be sold for up to £70million and that the striker wants to join a Champions League club.

Arsenal were keen on Martinez last summer and may now feel that they can win the race – but they don’t yet have a top-four place nailed down.

United won’t have Champions League football on offer but may try to tempt Inter with an intriguing offer.

It’s suggested that United are offering Inter cash plus Anthony Martial for Martinez, which would help the bank balance and bring in a replacement.

Martial, 26, looked like becoming a star with 17 goals in his first season at United. Even in the 2019-20 campaign, Martial racked up 23 goals.

Yet having struggled last season and the first half of this term, Martial was sent on loan to Sevilla in January.

Martial has yet to score a single league goal for Sevilla and United are no doubt desperate to sell this summer.

United will hope that Inter take an interest in Martial, allowing Arsenal target Martinez – hailed as ‘exciting’ by Jurgen Klopp – to move to Old Trafford.

That is far from ideal for Arsenal, who won’t want to miss out on Martinez – never mind see him join a direct Premier League rival.
