Arsenal man Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who is currently on loan at Southampton with Kyle Walker-Peters, has described the Tottenham transfer target as a “baller” on Instagram – after the Saints beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Walker-Peters, 25, has clocked up 99 appearances for Southampton since joining the club initially on loan. Then, in the summer of 2020, he joined permanently. He has gone on to shine for the Saints, earning England recognition twice.
TalkSPORT report that Spurs are interested in bringing the right-back back to the club this month. The Mail state that Spurs have a £30million buyback clause in his contract on the south coast – and he would class as a homegrown star.
Of course, Tottenham’s priority is Pedro Porro – with Rudy Galetti reporting Spurs have an ‘agreement in place’ with the player himself. But, there is no agreement with Sporting. After the 2-0 win over City, Walker-Peters took to Instagram.
Maitland-Niles describes Tottenham target Walker-Peters as a baller
He certainly was a baller on Wednesday night. His energy down the right flank saw him get up and down time after time, making Pep Guardiola change Sergio Gomez. The right-back is playing some of the best football of his career.
With Spurs needing quality at right wing-back, Porro would be a superb signing. But if they fail to get him, the clause they have for Walker-Peters has got to convince Spurs to bring him back. He is homegrown, and cheap at £30million.
But a decision needs to be made at Spurs. They have three options. The struggling Emerson Royal, slightly injury prone Matt Doherty and rookie Djed Spence, who could go out on loan. Walker-Peters would be an improvement on all.
Indeed, he has caught the eye of Maitland-Niles. The on-loan Arsenal man, who was not involved against City this week, gave his verdict on Walker-Peters on the latter’s Instagram post. He described the ex-Spurs man as a baller.
