Tottenham are interested in a move to re-sign Southampton defender Kyle Walker-Peters this month – a player that Dele Alli said is “fantastic” and really hard-working behind the scenes, having left Spurs to join the Saints in 2020.
Walker-Peters, 25, starred on Wednesday night as Southampton were excellent. His side beat Manchester City 2-0 in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. It saw the England defender clock up his 99th appearance for the South Coast club.
TalkSPORT report that Spurs are keeping tabs on Walker-Peters. Antonio Conte wants a right wing-back and Pedro Porro remains the one on the top of the list. Rudy Galetti says Spurs have an ‘agreement in principle’ with the player.
Speaking after Walker-Peters made his debut for Tottenham during a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the first game of the 2017-18 season, Dele Alli heaped praise on the then-Spurs man. He branded Walker-Peters as a fantastic player.
“A fantastic player. He’s been working really hard in training,” Dele told Spurs TV. “He’s done it and he took it and it was a great performance by him, so there is going to be some competition now. I am really happy for him.”

The Mail reported in the summer that Spurs have a buyback clause worth £30million to sign Walker-Peters. Tottenham do need a player like Walker-Peters and while Porro is the more-exciting signing, Walker-Peters would be well suited.
Young, proven in the Premier League, knows Spurs as a club well and is playing as a wing-back in Southampton’s side. Not simply, a right-back. He is an England international and at £30million, he would be a good alternative to Porro.
Whether Southampton would be willing to sell remains to be seen. But the fact Spurs have this clause will surely prove tempting for Fabio Paratici and the club. Especially, given Walker-Peters’ homegrown stature, aiding registration.
