Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have made a move for Benfica left-back and Newcastle United transfer target Alex Grimaldo, according to Record.

Record have reported that Arsenal have made contact with Grimaldo’s representatives about a possible move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window.
Benfica are willing to sell the left-back for €7-8m (£6.03-6.89m) because he has refused to sign a new contract and could leave on a free next summer, according to the report.
Arsenal are not the only English club who are keen on securing the services of Grimaldo.
Newcastle United have also been linked with the Spaniard.
A Bola reported in June that Newcastle, Arsenal and Juventus all want to sign the 26-year-old left-back.
The report claims that Benfica are open to selling Grimaldo for €15-20 million (£12.92-£17.23m).
Based on Record’s latest report, it seems that Grimaldo’s price has now fallen by €12 million (£10.34m).
Could a transfer happen?
If Arsenal and Newcastle United are really keen on Alex Grimaldo, then, in our view, a transfer could happen this summer.
A transfer fee of €7-8m (£6.03-6.89m) is not really that much for a left-back who will play second fiddle.
Arsenal will play in the UEFA Europa League next season, while Newcastle will aim to at least challenge for the Premier League top 10.
