Charles Watts has revealed a potentially optimistic injury update about Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey.
The Ghana international has been sidelined for almost a month.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta suggested that he may sit out the rest of the Gunners’ season after saying that things ‘didn’t look great’ in regards to the prognosis.
The North Londoners have won their last two Premier League games, beating Chelsea and Manchester United convincingly.
But they had lost their previous three outings without the former Atletico Madrid midfielder – a £45 million signing in 2020 – prior to that.
There’s no doubt that Partey is a massive player for Arsenal but can he play again this season?
According to one Watts’s sources, possibly.
The Goal journalist, who covers the Emirates Stadium outfit, revealed that he’s spoken to someone close to the 28-year-old and that he was told that a return before the campaign finishes isn’t being ruled out.
Watts said on his YouTube channel: “I spoke to someone close to Thomas Partey this morning and he said he wasn’t ruling anything out. But it’s just a case of let’s see how it goes. He said Thomas has a history of coming back from injuries a little bit quicker than expected.”
Partey has blossomed into an absolute monstrous player for Arsenal, with Arteta himself highlighting his improvement back in March.
And with the Gunners competing for a spot in the Champions League next season, currently sitting fourth in the Premier League table with five games to go, getting their midfield linchpin back would be a colossal boost.
Watts went on to say it’s important to temper expectations and that nobody should be getting their hopes up, but there’s no denying that Partey’s return would enhance Arsenal’s prospects of finishing in the top four and it’s difficult not to get excited by such an update.
