Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal will make a bid for Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Djed Spence on January transfer deadline day, according to The Northern Echo.

The Northern Echo have reported that both Arsenal and Tottenham are lining up bids for Spence, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Middlesbrough at the moment.

The report has suggested that Arsenal would need to pay £12-£15 million in transfer fee for the 21-year-old full-back.

Djed Spence would be a good signing for Arsenal

In our view, Spence would be a good signing for Arsenal and would make the Gunners better.

Now, of course, we know that Arsenal will not be able to play the youngster now.

That’s because Spence has already turned out for two clubs – Middlesbrough and Forest – this season.

So, it is likely that if Arsenal sign the 21-year-old, then they will allow him to stay on loan at Forest for the rest of the season.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is the first-choice right-back at Arsenal, and with Hector Bellerin unlikely to play for the Gunners again, manager Mikel Arteta does need options.

And, in our view, Spence would be a good option to have for Arteta.

The 21-year-old is a right-back by trade, but he can also operate at left-back and has played at right-wing as well this season.

Spence, who has played as a right-winger and further upfront as well this season, has scored one goal and provided one assist in 22 Championship matches this campaign.
