Arsenal are reportedly alongside Tottenham in the long list of clubs said to be admiring Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie – and now, the Gunners have the perfect chance to beat Spurs and sign him, thanks to Takehiro Tomiyasu.
McKennie, 24, has starred for Juventus since joining the Old Lady, initially on loan from Schalke in the summer of 2021. Signed by Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici for Juve, he has gone on to play 91 times for the Serie A giants.
Right now, McKennie will be preparing to play for USA against England on Friday evening in his country’s second game of the group stages at the World Cup. USA have got a boost to their chances of qualifying, after Wales lost to Iran.
The January window is approaching. Ben Jacobs claims Arsenal have been scouting McKennie while Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder is long-standing. Now, Arsenal might have the trump card needed to beat Spurs in the race.

Arsenal have perfect chance to sign McKennie thanks to Tomiyasu
That is because, Juventus want to sign Tomiyasu. According to CMW, Arsenal defender Tomiyasu could leave the Gunners already. The Japan international has fallen down the pecking order, with Ben White shining on the right flank.
Indeed, Tomiyasu has managed just three Premier League starts for Arsenal this season. Injury has hampered his time in North London – managing just 39 appearances since his move from Bologna in 2021. He could be allowed to go.
The report says that Arsenal will consider offers of £26million for Tomiyasu. A small profit of around £8million on the defender. McKennie is rated in a similar region, so a straight-swap deal between Juve and Arsenal might make sense.
Given Juventus want the Arsenal player and Arsenal are one of the clubs looking at McKennie – it might just tempt Juve to do business with Arsenal over the likes of Spurs. A swap deal would suit all parties, and elbow Spurs aside.
