Arsenal might have exited the FA Cup early, but Tottenham’s defeat to Middlesbrough last night will more than heal their wounds.

Antonio Conte’s side now look destined for another trophyless season as Spurs were dumped out of the Cup by Middlesbrough in extra-time, with teenage talent Josh Coburn bagging the winner at a pumped-up Riverside Stadium.

With Tottenham losing yet another crucial match, you can imagine the celebrations on social media from Arsenal supporters, and on-loan Middlesbrough forward Folarin Balogun decided to join in on the fun on Twitter.

The Hale End academy graduate was a second-half substitute for Chris Wilder’s side as the England youth international caused Tottenham problems with his pace and flair, and at full-time, Balogun couldn’t resist taking a poke at Spurs with a simple five-word tweet.

Indeed, Balogun is yet to score for Middlesbrough since joining the club in January, however, his performance against Tottenham was one that won the youngster praise from supporters, with Arsenal fans lauding him and the club for dumping out Spurs in the FA Cup.

It will now be 14 years since Tottenham last won silverware, with Conte’s job after last night’s loss to Middlesbrough now in an even more precarious position than ever.

The rivalry between Tottenham and Arsenal runs deep, and last night’s result, with Balogun playing his role for Middlesbrough, will be viewed as a huge morale boost for the Gunners.

Moreover, with Arsenal and Tottenham likely to be the two sides fighting for fourth spot in the Premier League, Conte’s side suffering another psychological blow could play a role in the race for UEFA Champions League football.
