Arsenal fans think that Jack Wilshere may just have a chance at getting the captaincy after training images emerged yesterday.

Wilshere to Arsenal?

Wilshere continues to train with Arsenal in a move which initially was said to be to ensure that he stays fit as he finds another club.

Mikel Arteta has consistently denied any chance of Wilshere joining Arsenal permanently.

However, there are plenty of Gunners fans who have a sneaking suspicion that the 29-year-old may well be offered a deal.

Wilshere is becoming more and more involved in the sessions and he was seen in deep discussion with Arteta yesterday.

The images have instantly led to calls on Twitter from Arsenal fans suggesting that Wilshere could be made captain.

Next Arsenal captain?

Arsenal, of course, stripped Pierre Emerick Aubameyang of his role of skipper yesterday.

Arteta is now on the search for a new captain and is yet to decide on who will wear the armband.

Alexandre Lacazette, Martin Odegaard and Kieran Tierney have all been discussed as potential candidates – but there are doubts over all three.

Lacazette’s future is uncertain, while Odegaard and Tierney haven’t been regular starters this term.

That could be a similar problem if Wilshere was made captain, given his injury history.

However, he does have a great deal of experience at Arsenal and his professionalism has never really been in question.

Wilshere clearly commands a lot of respect in the Arsenal dressing room, and is hugely popular with supporters after coming through Hale End.

But whether Arteta could now be persuaded into handing Wilshere a contract and making him the club’s new leader remains to be seen.
