Arsenal still want Douglas Luiz and are ready to launch another bid for the Aston Villa midfielder during the January transfer window.

The Gunners made a late dash before the summer deadline in an attempt to sign a new midfielder.

Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny both suffered injuries before the deadline and Edu wanted further depth in the engine room.

The deadline passed without Arsenal landing a new face though, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying…

Arsenal still want Douglas Luiz

Sky Sports reported on deadline day that Arsenal made three bids for Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Bids of £20million, £23million and £25million were all rejected by Villa as they stood firm and kept hold of the Brazilian ace.

The problem for Villa is that Douglas Luiz is out of contract at the end of the season and could simply walk away for nothing.

Liverpool are one club understood to have been showing an interest in the 24-year-old.

The Sun now report that Arsenal are still interested in Douglas Luiz and are ready to launch another bid in January.

Yet Arsenal now intend to offer less than they did on deadline for the former Manchester City man.

This time, Arsenal believe £15million should be a fair price for Douglas Luiz when he’s inside the final six months of his contract.

Douglas Luiz is claimed to be keen on joining Arsenal and is thought to have a strong relationship with Mikel Arteta.

An additional note is that Arteta is allegedly concerned about Thomas Partey’s injuries piling up and wants more cover in midfield.

Douglas Luiz can provide that and is already proven in the Premier League having racked up more than 100 top-flight appearances for Villa.

Whether Villa are willing to cash in during the January window remains to be seen, but Arsenal certainly aren’t giving up even after the deadline day snubs.
