Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin received a red card last night for loan club Real Betis in their La Liga win over Elche.
With the Seville-based side leading 3-0, Tete Morente ran through on goal for Elche. With Bellerin the last defender back, the 26-year-old committed a professional foul to deny the winger from having a golden chance at putting the hosts back into the match.
Whilst the contact was small, the rules of the game state that a foul of this nature is a red card as Bellerin was given his marching orders on the 67th minute.
Indeed, the red card from Bellerin did little to change the final outcome of the fixture. However, the defender was slammed by both Spanish pundits and Arsenal fans for the foul.
After all, Betis were 3-0 up heading into the final 20 minutes of the match. And Bellerin’s red card means that Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be without the £110,000-a-week fullback for two Spanish fixtures.
As mentioned, pundits and fans were stunned by Bellerin’s foul. And Arsenal fans on social media couldn’t believe the decision their on-loan defender took to deny a goalscoring oppertunity.
