Fabrizio Romano has suggested on Twitter that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are about to miss out on Diego Costa.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has reported that Corinthians are pushing to complete the signing of Costa, linked with Arsenal and Newcastle in the January transfer window, in the next few hours.

You can read Romano’s tweet on the former Chelsea striker in full below.

Calciomercato reported this week that Newcastle are interested in signing the former Atletico Madrid striker on a free transfer in January.

Goal reported earlier this month that Arsenal have made an enquiry about signing Costa on a free transfer this month.

Diego Costa no big miss for Arsenal

In our view, if Arsenal are not able to sign Costa on a free transfer this month, then it will not be a big miss for the Gunners.

Yes, the Spain international strikers knows the Premier League inside out and won the title with Chelsea.

However, Costa is 33 now and is not at his best.

In our opinion, Arsenal can find better strikers in the January transfer window.

Now, of course, Costa would be a decent signing for the short term, but he has had disciplinary issues, just like Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka.
