Arsenal reportedly want to sign the Spanish left-back as a back-up to Kieran Tierney.
Tierney is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League, but the Scotland international has had injury problems during his time at Arsenal so far.
Nuno Tavares did not always have the best of times when he turned out for the Gunners last season and has been linked with moves away from the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Earlier this month, Record reported that Arsenal had made contact with the representatives of Grimaldo, who is valued at €7-8m (£6-7m) by Benfica.
A Bola reported in June that Newcastle, Arsenal and Juventus all want to sign the 26-year-old left-back.
