Raheem Sterling’s time at Chelsea could be coming to an end this summer with the Blues ready to cut their losses on the forward.
Since his move from Manchester City back in the summer of 2022, Raheem Sterling has struggled at Stamford Bridge and a move away from West London is looking likely for the English winger.
Sterling is understood to be ‘frustrated’ at Maresca’s decision to drop the Englishman from his squad and now sources have told HITC that the Englishman could be left out of Chelsea’s Premier League squad altogether.
A similar situation is occurring with Trevoh Chalobah. HITC reported that Chelsea are ready to omit Chalobah from their Premier League squad and the English defender is ready to leave the club.
Sterling is in a similar situation to Chalobah but it is unclear what will happen with the English winger, who is one of the highest-earning players at Chelsea. Perhaps a former coach could resurrect his career.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could be perfect for Raheem Sterling
A forgotten and struggling Chelsea moving to Arsenal this summer would not be a new phenomenon and Sterling could follow that trend this summer if he wants to remain in the Premier League, and indeed London.
Arsenal, in recent seasons, have signed Kai Havertz, David Luiz, Willian, Jorginho and Petr Cech from Chelsea with mixed levels of success. Jorginho and Havertz have improved with the Gunners with Mikel Arteta knowing how to get the best out of the former Chelsea pair.
Sterling may be a different case. A new forward was one of Arsenal’s priorities this summer but the Gunners failed to sign RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.
Sterling has 23 goals during his time at Chelsea but it was his spell at City where the Englishman excelled with the winger netting 131 times in 339 appearances for the Citizens.
What Sterling and Mikel Arteta have said about each other
Back in 2020, during Arteta’s first full season at Arsenal, Sterling was complimentary of the Spaniard and knew he would be a good appointment at the Emirates Stadium.
“He’s a person that had a lot of say here,” Sterling told the Daily Mail. “The manager trusted him here and he had a lot of influence on the players here and the team as well.
“So I knew once he went into Arsenal that it would be a great opportunity for him but also he would definitely implement what he wanted to bring in.
“And he’s a person that will put his foot down and not let things slide as you can see with the boys at Arsenal. They know if they don’t run they are most likely not going to play.”
While Arteta described him as a ‘good guy’ who was ‘improving in every aspect’ during the 2018 All Or Nothing documentary on City.
A goalscoring winger from the left could be ideal for Arsenal and it would be another string to Arteta’s bow if the Gunners decided to take a punt on the winger and he succeeded in North London.
