Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (2:05pm, February 12, 2022) that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal should hand Bukayo Saka a new contract worth £100,000 per week amid reported interest from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that Arsenal should have handed a new deal to Saka after they decided to let Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave in the January transfer window.
Merson, a former Arsenal player, has urged the Gunners to offer Saka a contract worth £100,000 per week.
The 20-year-old England international, who can play as a left-back, winger or midfielder, is on the radar of Liverpool, according to The Daily Mail this week.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (2:05pm, February 12, 2022): “My biggest worry now is what you read about Saka.
“As soon as Aubameyang went, they should have gone to Saka and said, ‘Here’s another £50,000-a-week on your wages. Here’s a four/five year contract’. Please don’t get into this again, Arsenal.”
The Sky Sports pundit added: “Give him a contract now. Give him 100 grand a week. He deserves it. He is top-drawer.”

Arsenal fans need not worry about Bukayo Saka
In our view, Arsenal fans need not worry about the future of Saka.
The youngster is a graduate of the Hale End academy system, and there is no suggestion that he wants to leave.
Now, of course, Liverpool are a big club, but so are Arsenal, who, like the Reds, are a global brand too.
In our view, Saka will stay at Arsenal for a long time.
After all, he is only 20, and he will know that staying at the Gunners and playing regular first-team football is best for him.
Now, of course, Arsenal should reward Saka with a new deal that represents his value.
The Englishman is earning £33,000 per week as salary (SalarySport) at the moment, and he probably needs a pay-rise given his importance to the arsenal team.
Saka has made 20 starts and two substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal so far this season.
The attacker has scored six goals and provided four assists in those games.
